Tips For Planning A Fantastic Family Camping Trip

Have you booked your summer family camping trip at our Louisiana campground? If not, time is running out to enjoy all our summer activities. Book your site here! Already decided to join us at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™? We can't wait to see you at our campground located near New Orleans & Baton Rouge. Before you pack up and set out on your adventure, check out these camping tips to make sure your entire family will have a great time!

Be Prepared

Start your trip on the right foot by practicing putting up your tent, trailer, or pop-up before arriving at the campground. Believe us, pitching your brand-new tent only to realize you don't have all the necessary parts is not fun! Planning out your campsite or RV set-up before arrival will save a ton of time and get you out and enjoying the great outdoors even faster! Bringing extra batteries, gas, charcoal, and/or kerosene for lamps, flashlights, and portable grills will also avoid a last-minute run to the convenience store during your trip. Did we mention you can fill up your propane tank at Jellystone Park's on-site station? Plus, if you're staying at one of our Troophouses, propane is included with your reservation. If you were planning on rubbing two sticks together to provide your family with the picturesque campfire experience you dreamed about, think again. Building a campfire isn't hard—just bring the right tools with you. Long matches, lighters, and firestarters will simplify the process. If you forget anything, no worries, we've got all your needs at the Ranger Station!

Embrace the Unexpected

One way to ensure your entire family will enjoy their camping trip is to plan, embrace, and pack for the unexpected. Don't let a rainstorm deter you from having fun! Bring rain gear and rubber boots and let those little "cubs" splash in the puddles! Make sure you set aside a place that will stay dry at all times for things like towels, papers, and electronics. Also, make a food-prep plan that factors in rainy weather. Traveling with little ones in tow increases the likelihood of some bumps, bruises, and scrapes along the way. Pack first-aid essentials like bandages, antibiotic ointment, ice packs, and burn cream to take care of unexpected minor injuries quickly. In addition to hand sanitizer, consider setting up a mobile handwashing station at your campsite, like the one in this article. Also, don't forget the sunscreen and bug spray!

Set Expectations

The key to any successful family vacation lies in setting the right expectations. Express your desires for your camping experience, and let other family members do the same. This will allow everyone to be on the same page and will help you plan your stay. It may even avoid future disappointment when a child doesn't get to swim in the pool for as long as he/she wanted or avoid an upset mama-bear who didn't get to finish the book she's been wanting to read for months.

Plan an Itinerary

Camping may seem like a low-key trip in terms of planning, but at Jellystone Park— our Louisiana camp-resort—there is always something to do! We offer a wide variety of amenities and activities, especially during the summer. With Rec activities all week long, themed weekends, live music and dancing, and special events, there's never been a better time to stay with us. Check out our event calendar to see what is happening during your stay. Then, plan out what activities your family will want to participate in so you don't miss out on any of the fun! Also, plan time to simply relax out in nature—you won't regret it!
